Crates vs cardboard boxes
Why hire plastic crates instead of buying cardboard boxes?
Plastic crates are stronger, stackable, and waterproof — they protect your belongings better than cardboard, which can collapse or get soggy. They also save you money: no buying boxes you use once and throw away. And because we collect them afterwards, there is nothing to break down or recycle. It is cheaper, easier, and kinder to the planet.
How many crates do I need for a 1 bedroom flat?
A 1 bedroom flat typically needs 15–25 crates depending on how much you have accumulated. Our 1 Bedroom package is designed for this and includes the right number for an average move. If you are a minimalist or have already decluttered, you may need fewer — contact us and we can advise.
How many crates do I need for a 2 bedroom home?
A 2 bedroom home usually needs 25–40 crates. Our 2 Bedroom package covers the typical range. Homes with a lot of books, kitchen equipment, or storage tend toward the higher end. We would rather you have a few spare than run out on moving day.
Are plastic moving crates better than cardboard boxes for Edinburgh tenement flats?
Yes — tenement stairs are narrow and steep, and our crates are designed to be carried and stacked efficiently in tight spaces. They have built-in handles, uniform dimensions so they stack safely, and lids that clip on securely. Cardboard boxes vary in size, weaken under weight, and are much harder to manage on a tight staircase.
Is crate hire cheaper than buying cardboard boxes in Edinburgh?
For most moves, yes. A typical 1 bedroom move might need 20 cardboard boxes costing £40–£60 to buy, plus the time and hassle of breaking them down afterwards. Our Studio package starts from £30 and includes delivery, collection, and lids. The larger the move, the more you save compared to buying cardboard.
